Overview
The Brutalist
Directed by Brady Corbet
โThe Brutalist is a new great American masterpiece.โโDavid Fear, Rolling Stone
Brady Corbet has directed and co-written this striking film detailing the immigrant experience and the longing for the American dream which is often complicated by antisemitism, racism, and power struggles.
Escaping post-war Europe, visionary Jewish architect Lรกszlรณ Toth (Adrien Brody) arrives in America to rebuild his life, his work, and his marriage to his wife Erzsรฉbet (Felicity Jones) after being forced apart during wartime by shifting borders and regimes. On his own in a strange new country, Lรกszlรณ settles in Pennsylvania, where the wealthy and prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pierce) recognizes his talent for building. But power and legacy come at a heavy cost as Lรกszlรณ fights to retain his vision for his first U.S. commission. Lรกszlรณโs style is bold but imbued with life experience and ahead of his time. Like all forward thinkers, his approach may not be appreciated or embraced in the present.
Director Brady Corbet won the Silver Lion Award for Best Director of the 2024 Venice Film Festival where the film premiered. Adrien Brody and Guy Pierce were nominated for Gotham Awards for their performances in this film.
2024, U.S./U.K./Hungary, DCP, in English, Hungarian, Italian, Hebrew, and Yiddish with English subtitles, 215 minutes including intermission. Recommended for 16+
