THE SWEET EAST + Discussion with Screenwriter Nick Pinkerton
Speed Art Museum, South 3rd Street, Louisville, KY, USA
Overview
The Speed Cinema is hosting a screening of The Sweet East (Directed by Sean Price Williams), followed by a discussion with screenwriter Nick Pinkerton moderated by Lamplighter Film Union founder Nathan Viner.ย โ๏ธ
The Sweet East is a picaresque journey through the cities and woods of the Eastern seaboard of the United States undertaken by Lillian (Talia Ryder), a high school senior from South Carolina who gets her first glimpse of the wider world on a class trip to Washington, D.C. Separated from her schoolmates, she embarks on a fractured fairy tale travelogue into America, where she is granted access to a variety of the strange factions that proliferate the present-day unreality of contemporary life. ๐ฅ
โItโs a well-made, purposefully ugly treatise of America as a broken-down theme park.โ โ Nick Allen, RogerEbert.com
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and played the New York Film Festival, featuring stellar performances by Simon Rex and Jacob Elordi.ย โจ
