From their first raw recordings in an Akron, Ohio basement to selling out arenas around the globe, This is a film about The Black Keys explores the 24-year bond between Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney that has taken them through the highs and lows of their lives – both professionally and personally.
The duo barely knew each other when they made their first recordings, yet quickly realized they shared a powerful musical connection and a drive to succeed. Touring relentlessly for ten years, they navigated life on the road, finally reaching escape velocity with their hit records Brothers and El Camino.
Acclaimed Louisville-native filmmaker Jeff Dupre (Soundbreaking: Stories from the Cutting Edge of Recorded Music, Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present) skillfully integrates the vast catalog of the band’s discography into the narrative of two men whose relationship as friends, artists, and co-workers has been challenged and evolved over time. As so many forces have threatened to pull them apart, The Black Keys have managed to stick together, still making great music and still asking what’s next.
